outstanding contribution to many aspects of Sidcup life. Sadly, Doris died
in 2007 at the age of 90 – maybe her long life could be attributed to the
fact that she rode tandem with Tom for a number of years!

Tom was fluent in both Urdu and Russian and toured the world giving
speeches and attending conferences etc in connection with his work. Also,
in more recent years he cruised on ocean liners lecturing and presenting on
numerous subjects.

As an example of the esteem in which Tom was held, ten members of the
Indian Army Signal Corps made a month-long 3,000-mile journey on their

motorcycles from India arriving at Blandford Camp in Dorset on the 17th
September 2010 to commemorate their centenary in 2011. They were met
by a fanfare of trumpeters of the Royal Corps of Signals and by Brigadier
Tim Watts and members of the Indian High Commission in London. Later
they were introduced to Tom in his capacity of Major (Ret’d), the last
Chairman of the Indian Army Signal Corps Association.

TOM & son PETER Tom’s funeral was held on the 5th May
at Kemnal Park Cemetery, Sidcup.
It was an extremely well-attended
service and his daughters Gill and
Pauline, son Peter and son-in-law
Julian, all took part in the service;
Gill played the piano, Pauline read
Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If” and Peter,
read the eulogy – which was hilarious!
Julian read a passage from the bible.
There was a Standard Bearer from
the Royal Signals Association in
attendance and a bugler played The
Last Post.
